Where are my international shares held?

CommSec is providing you with a nominee and custody service and is your counterparty under the International Shares Terms and Conditions.

CommSec has appointed Interactive Brokers LLC (IBLLC) as its sub-custodian/ International Custodian. IBLLC may engage the services of other custodians depending on the country in which the assets are held.

What does this mean?

The way share ownership works is different to Australian Equities. When you purchase international shares through CommSec, your assets are segregated in the name of CommSec Custodial Nominees Pty Limited, and our International Custodian (Interactive Brokers LLC) is the legal owner, while you retain beneficial ownership of all assets in your account.
