Checking your details between CommSec, a share registry and CHESS

Why you’d do this

To confirm that your name and address match before you submit a request to transfer shares.

Where your CommSec details are

Here's how to find your CHESS registration details:

1. Log on to the CommSec website

2. Go to Portfolio, then Accounts

3. If you have multiple trading accounts, select the one you want to view details of

4. Click on View or Edit Account Details

5. You will be asked to verify your identity via an SMS code

6. Your CHESS registration details are listed under Postal (CHESS).

Where your details are on a share registry

There are several ways you can find out how your name and address are recorded with a share registry:

  • Look for a paper statement associated with the shares (statements are sent to you by the registry)
  • Log on to the share registry website and view your details online
Here's where to look on the share registry website

Computershare and Link Market Services are commonly used share registries in Australia. If you are trying to look up the details of a shareholding that’s held with another share registry, you may need to contact the registry directly.

Computershare

  1. Go to www.computershare.com/au and click on the login button, then select “Investor centre”
  2. Enter your username and password to sign in
  3. Select “Portfolio”
  4. Find the relevant shareholding and select “View details”
  5. Click on “Actions” and then select “Account details” from the pop-up menu
  6. On the next page you can view your registered name and address (these are the details that must match before you can transfer a shareholding to CommSec)
Link Market Services

  2. Enter your email and password to sign in
  3. Select “Holdings”
  4. Find the relevant shareholding and select “View details”
  5. Look for the name displayed at the top next to “Registered holder”, and the address listed at the bottom in the “Communications” section (this name and address must match the details on your CommSec account before you can transfer a shareholding to CommSec)

Not sure how to find the relevant share registry? Search for "share registry" or look under Related Support.
